Anchor exists because the person who installs a blocker and the person who wants it gone at 2 a.m. are the same person — just hours apart, and only one of them is thinking clearly.
The problem with most blockers
Almost every filter is built for the calm version of you. It assumes that if you meant it when you installed it, you'll still mean it later. But that's not how urges work. They arrive when you're tired, alone, bored or hurting, and they arrive with a very reasonable-sounding argument for turning the filter off — just this once.
A settings toggle is no match for that. Neither is a password you chose yourself and can remember perfectly at midnight. The gap isn't information or motivation. It's that the decision gets re-opened at the worst possible moment.
Anchor's whole job is to close that gap — and then get out of the way.
What Anchor actually is
A commitment device. You choose a period while you're clear-headed, and Anchor holds that decision through the moments when you'd undo it: adult sites blocked, explicit images blurred before they load, safe search forced on, and — if you want it — a one-time unlock code sitting with someone you trust instead of with you.
And at the moment it matters most, a blocked page doesn't lecture you. It shows your own words back to you, and offers something to do with the next ninety seconds while the wave passes.
What Anchor stands on
Your data never leaves your device
No account, no analytics, no tracking, no servers holding your habits. Blocking decisions and AI image checks all happen locally — because a tool about shame should never become a database of it.
No shame, ever
Nobody has ever been shamed into changing. Blocked pages meet you with your own reasons and a way through, not a scolding — and there's no counter of failures anywhere in the app.
Hard to undo, on purpose
Friction is the feature. Anchor makes the impulsive choice slow and the considered one permanent — the opposite of how the sites it blocks are designed.
Honest about its limits
No filter is perfect, and Anchor says so plainly. It can't follow you to another browser or device, and it isn't therapy. It's one strong support, not a cure — and pretending otherwise would help nobody.
Who makes it
Anchor is built and maintained by one developer — not a company, not an investor-backed startup with growth targets. That's deliberate. There's no incentive here to keep you opening the app, no engagement to optimise, and nothing to sell to anyone else. Anchor succeeds when you need it less.
The core stays free. A one-time upgrade funds the work, and there's no subscription, because a tool you're meant to outgrow shouldn't bill you forever.
